San Antonio, the home of the Alamo

After a short 3 – 4 hour drive, we made it to San Antonio, TX, the home of the Alamo.  We checked into our hotel, and then drove down to the heart of San Antonio.  We got great parking right on the river walk in the center of everything.  We walked around a bit, and then walked to the Alamo, while it was still light out.  Unfortunately it was closed for the day, so we only got to see the outside of it.

Then we walked down the street, and ended up finding a “Pat O’Briens,” which is a restaurant bar the originally started in New Orleans.  This bar is famous in New Orleans, and they have the famous “Hurricanes” which is a delicious cocktail that is sure to put you on your face.  Of course Billy and I had to get one, so we ate dinner there as well.  We got some burgers, and a couple cups of a New Orleans favorite “Jambalaya.”  It was very good, and took us back to our memories of Mardi Gras.  We have a picture of us in front of the fountain after dinner, and the people that I asked to take our picture, were actually from New Hampshire.   When we got to talking with them, we found out that they are actually from Goffstown, and one of them worked at the Hillsborough County Nursing Home, which is a place I worked when I was in high school.  It was too funny, and it just goes to show how small this world is.

After dinner, we went down to the river, and walked on the river walk. We also got tickets for a river boat tour, which took us all around the river walk, and highlighted the history of San Antonio.  Since it was night time, and all the restaurants and shop were all lit up, it was very romantic, and beautiful.  After the boat tour, we were walking the river, and ended up finding a Coyote Ugly Saloon, which is part of the chain of bars, that was showcased in the movie “Coyote Ugly.”  It was a good time, and of course I made my way up on the bar for a little dancing session, and earned myself a Coyote Ugly tank top.  Billy was very proud, haha.

After that, we made our way back to the hotel, to get some much needed rest.  We were suppose to drive to Fort Stockton today and camp out there for one night, but it is supposed to rain and have thunder and lightning storms. So instead, we are just driving completely through to our next stop, Truth or Consequence, NM.

As always, below are some highlights of our visit to San Antonio.
